 Applying for Summer Camp

About the Summer Camps – Pontiac Bay periodically holds summer camp workshops where youth participants have an opportunity to work with an established guest conductor and also with some of Pontiac Bay's adult mentors from the concert season.

During the workshop, the youth participants read through and rehearse orchestral music from Film, Theater, and Television, work on sight-reading skills, and also work on enhancing their technique and performance skills. One or two adult mentors from Pontiac Bay Symphony Orchestra sit in with the youth participants during the workshop and assist them as they work through the music.

Each workshop also includes a Recital for friends, family, and guests, and is followed by a reception. The guest conductor leads the recital and the adult mentors also participate in the performance.

Basic Details – The summer camp workshops are for youth, ages 12 through 18, and generally take place over four consecutive Saturdays. Past workshops have been scheduled in July and August.

Those who are interested in participating should first contact Pontiac Bay at 206-364-0907 to determine if the workshop is being held.  If it is, individuals are then asked to complete an Application form and schedule an audition. The main purpose of the audition is to determine sight-reading ability and performance level.

After an application is received, the person is contacted to arrange an audition. There is also a fee to participate in the summer camp that is due at the audition if the person is accepted into the workshop.

Location – Past summer camp workshops have been held at the school at Lake City Presbyterian, which is located in northeast Seattle four miles north of the University of Washington.
